India Davis is a multidisciplinary artist, arts organizer, producer/director, educator and the Founding Artistic Director of Topsy-Turvy Queer Circus. Founded in 2012, Topsy-Turvy is the nation’s only queer people of color circus. India’s identity as a Queer, Black, mixed-race femme informs her artworks. She explores these intersections by fusing and layering modalities to create immersive dance environments that literally show different worlds and ways of being are possible. India is a trained acrobat and aerialist who combines physical feats with dance to illustrate the breadth of her inspirations. Skilled in moving image, writing and music production, India has been a solo and collaborative creator of numerous productions spanning a variety of disciplines. India also teaches regular movement classes in Oakland, including classes specifically for queer and trans people of color. She is a 2018 KQED Bay Brilliant Artist whose work has been featured by BUST Magazine and Afropunk.
